Forrest Gump is a simple man with little brain activity but good intentions. He struggles through childhood with his best and only friend Jenny. His momma teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam, he wins medals, starts a ping-pong craze, creates a famous shrimp fishing fleet, inspires people to jog, creates the smiley face, writes bumper stickers and songs, donates to people, and meets the president several times. However, this is all irrelevant to Forrest who can only think of his childhood sweetheart, Jenny. In the end, all he wants to prove is that anyone can love anyone.
In the scene we will watch today, Forrest runs home after receiving word that his momma is sick. She tells him that she’s dying, and not to worry, because dying is just a part of life. We are all destined to die, yet Forrest’s momma urges him to seek out and live his destiny. It is a life-long search for all of us. What are we supposed to do with our lives? How do we accept the disappointments in life? How will we know if we have lived our lives with integrity, and really, what does it mean to live a life of integrity? How will you strive to live out your life with integrity and honesty to ensure your dreams will be your reality?
